Sadza Marimba and Mbira Band is based in Santa Cruz County, California. We play traditional and contemporary dance music of Zimbabwe, much of which has ancient roots in the spiritual traditions of the Shona people
Jill, Joe, Betty, Becca, Kim, Cathy, Leslye, and Steve
Our name 'Sadza' refers to the traditional staple food for most of Zimbabwe's indigenous peoples, a stiff porridge commonly made with white cornmeal. The band Sadza provides musical sustenance for its listeners in the form of ecstatic dance music. Sadza performs on marimba, mbira and karimba, with hosho (gourd shakers) and drum providing additional rhythm.
The mbira band Mawungira Enharira is coming back to the Bay Area for 3 concerts, featuring their full 6-person ensemble, for full-on sound and fun! Visit Mawungira Enharira for details of their US tour!
